Our staff

Our staff are the heart of our company. They are all carefully selected through a rigorous recruitment process. This includes: an enhanced Criminal Record Bureau check, face to face interviews and training.

The qualities we look for in our staff are compassion, respect, commitment, understanding and a friendly attitude. We have people working for us from a range of ages and backgrounds but the one thing they all share is a willing approach and a readiness to adapt to the particular circumstances of our service users.

Our staff are very important to us and are continually supported throughout the year with a staff training and development programme.

Selecting and training the right people

All of our home care support workers have provided references, which have been thoroughly checked. They also undergo an Enhanced CRB Disclosure before being allowed to deliver home care in the community.

We take training very seriously and ensure all employees are fully adept in meeting our standards, to improve their skills in delivering quality home care and to be fully aware of any changes in legislation. All of our staff have the opportunity to undertake a Diploma in Health and social Care or higher qualifications depending on their position within the company.

All home care support workers are expected to follow the policies and procedures of Owen Care and Support Services, the Essential Standards of Health and Safety 2010 and the Codes of Conduct set out by the General Social Care Council.

Staff we employ will receive training according to the duties they may be required to undertake. This training will include mandatory training and other specialised non-mandatory training as needed such as:

  • Induction and introduction to home care

  • Risk assessments

  • Moving and handling

  • Safeguarding adults at risk

  • Basic emergency first aid

  • Dementia awareness

  • Palliative care

  • Safe handling of medication

  • Food hygiene and nutrition

  • Infection control

  • Health and safety at work

  • Other appropriate and recognised qualifications

  • Training in Parkinson's disease and strokes awareness
